Education

CAIR-CT is committed to ensuring that our schools reflect the diversity and values of our communities. Education is a cornerstone of opportunity and understanding, and we work tirelessly to promote inclusivity, equity, and respect for all students.

Recognizing Eid-ul-Fitr as a School Holiday

One of CAIR-CT’s most impactful achievements has been the successful advocacy for the recognition of Eid-ul-Fitr as a district-wide school holiday in several school districts across Connecticut, including Stamford, Norwalk, Bridgeport, Fairfield, Trumbull, and Waterbury. This milestone reflects the growing recognition of the Muslim community’s contributions and ensures that Muslim students and their families can celebrate this important religious occasion without compromising their education.

Why This Matters

  • Representation: Recognizing Eid-ul-Fitr as a school holiday sends a powerful message of inclusion and respect for the Muslim community.
  • Equity: It ensures that Muslim students are not forced to choose between observing their faith and attending school.
  • Community Building: This achievement fosters greater cultural understanding and solidarity among students of diverse backgrounds.

Our Work

CAIR-CT achieved this success through:

  • Community Mobilization: Partnering with parents, students, and local leaders to advocate for policy changes at school board meetings.
  • Awareness Campaigns: Educating school officials and the broader community about the significance of Eid-ul-Fitr.
  • Collaborative Advocacy: Working with interfaith and civic organizations to build support for inclusive school calendars.

Join Us in Expanding This Effort

Our work is not done. CAIR-CT continues to advocate for the recognition of Eid and other cultural observances in school districts throughout Connecticut. If you’d like to support these efforts or bring this initiative to your district, contact us today.
